SMAW FIELD WELDER


General Discription


The Welder works under the direction of the Supervisor in the Field SMAW welding process. This position involves working on the installation of steel structural components and the various welding duties accompanies this. This position may also be involved in the layout and welding of varied applications as required.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Identify and move the building components to the assembly area
  • Lift and guide components into position using cranes
  • Hoist steel, attach cables and/or slings to each piece using levels, transits and laser equipment
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications
  • Work from elevated work platforms (EWPs or scissor lifts)
  • Work on the structure itself at heights beyond the reach of EWPs
  • Fit and weld steel structural elements, such as I-Beams, joists, mezzanines, handrails, and guard rails
  • Weld components in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions
  • Observe welding procedures and their application in accordance with welding specifications
  • Determine the materials required and plan the sequence of tasks
  • Follow direction from the site Supervisor
  • Participate in morning Tool Box Talk
  • Follow all safety requirements of both the company and the project site
  • Report any unsafe working conditions to the Supervisor immediately
  • Other duties as assigned



Qualifications:


  • 2 to 3 years’ experience in Ironworking with Pre-Engineered buildings or conventional steel
  • Must have and maintain a CWB SMAW all position Welding ticket
  • Able to work at heights
  • Physically fit to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Able to work in a team environment
  • High awareness of health and safety practices
  • Able to understand and follow instructions
  • Working at Heights training and Elevated Work Platform ticket are preferred; will provide training in these areas if necessary
  • Valid class G driver’s licence with own vehicle is preferred
