General Description

We are currently looking for a full-time Construction Estimator to work out of our Hamilton office. This role will be reporting directly to the VP of Construction. The candidate must have experience with the procurement of materials, extensive ICI experience and skill at estimating for multi-million dollar design build projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform the takeoff and estimates of conventional steel ICI Construction projects
  • Detailing and ordering of parts, materials, and building packages and/or components
  • Assist Project Managers in negotiating and award of subcontracts
  • Calculate equipment and labour requirements to erect buildings construct projects using standard excel templates and knowledge of special items (i.e. subcontractors, camp, travel requirements and rates, cranes, man lifts, and equipment requirements and rates)
  • Coordinate with customers and consultants to obtain missing information and to ensure that estimates are based on information that is as accurate and complete as possible
  • Prepare estimates for presentation to prospective clients
  • Review all estimates with the VP, President and/or Project Manager, and make amendments as required
  • Attend meetings to assist in the planning and coordination to ensure an efficient, problem-free process
  • Verify discrepancies between bid/tender documents and drawings to those issued for construction
  • Work with design staff to ensure end design meets estimate
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Post-secondary education in Architectural or Engineering Technology and/or equivalent experience
  • Previous experience with pre-engineered buildings
  • Proficiency with MS Office (including Word, Excel, & Outlook)
  • Strong mathematical and communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and blueprints
  • Excellent problem solving, critical thinking, and job task planning skills
  • Experience in Design Build estimating an asset
