CAD TECHNICIAN


General Description


We are searching for a CAD Technician to assist the Sales, Estimating, and Operations team members with the design and detailing of current and prospective construction projects, and to coordinate with consultants, contractors, suppliers, and project members on various job sites throughout Canada. This role will involve stewardship and change control of the design projects, while providing regular feedback and updates to VP of Construction and necessary project stakeholders. This position will be based out of our Hamilton office at Scott Design Build Inc., which is our general contracting division.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Coordinate design requirements with project team, consultants and contractors
  • Prepare construction drawings
  • Prepare construction drawing packages for Tenders, RFP’s and Permit Applications
  • Review designs for conformance to Municipal, Provincial, National and specific industry standards
  • Select consultants, surveyors, inspectors and coordinate their activities
  • Document control of contract and drawing revisions
  • Update drawings and create as-builts for turn over packages
  • Prepare reports
  • Other duties as assigned



Qualifications:


  • Minimum of two years’ experience in a similar role
  • Construction, Engineering or Architectural technician diploma from an Ontario accredited institution, or equivalent
  • Highly proficient with AutoCAD, Revit, or equivalents; Proficiency with Microsoft office
  • BCIN Certification is considered an asset
  • Working knowledge of OBC, NBC, SB-10
  • Experience in developing site plans for permit applications
  • Working knowledge of other disciplines such as mechanical/electrical systems
  • Experience in pre-engineered buildings is an asset
  • Experience using or producing construction drawings is an asset
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written
  • Strong multi-tasking, organizational, and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities
  • Ability to create functional floor plans and develop building elevations
  • Ability to take a hand drawn concept and create workable drawings for sales and construction purposes
  • Independent self-starter that can collaborate effectively with others, and will ask questions as required in a timely manner
  • Ability to exercise tact and discretion in dealing with sensitive and confidential information
  • Detail oriented and ability to work under strict deadlines
  • Previous construction experience is considered an asset
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and drawings
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
